“I wanted very much to learn to draw, for a reason that I kept to myself: I wanted to convey an emotion I have about the beauty of the world.”

― Richard Feynman

My Work

Quite literally, I don't see how other people see. Because of this, what comes out of me can sometimes take on what appears to be abstract. Usually, if you spend enough time looking, you'll start to see the patters.  I first began to draw for a biological illustration science course in high school. I found I had an affinity for recreating objects and tissues into a 2D form. Perhaps it was because I lacked stereo-vision, or perhaps it was a genetic predisposition. Whatever the case may be, I began to create original work because something sparked a fire within me. Whenever these sparks ignite I'm unable to resist the need to express the beauty of whatever it is that was the catalyst. Most of my inspiration comes from science, the natural world around me, or something I've read or heard about. It can come from the scent of a flower, the feeling of the sun on my skin, or the sound of a beautiful piece of music. Usually it's from nature and the mysteries found in the unanswered questions of the universe. The Golden Ratio (phi), the symmetry of physics and biology, even the double helix of the genetic ladder of DNA. One of my repetitive catalysts is mitochondria, and how they remind me of microscopic stars, like fractal fusion reactors inside of every cell.
Nature uses only the longest threads to weave her patterns, so that each small piece of her fabric reveals the organization of the entire tapestry.
